# Smart Grid Manager Documentation

{% columns %}
{% column %}
The Helin Smart Grid Manager (SGM) is a middleware platform that connects your on-site energy assets, solar inverters, battery systems, EV chargers, to your asset and energy management systems. It sits between your hardware and your upstream systems, translating commands into real-time control actions and streaming telemetry back to wherever you need it.<br>

## Documentation made for every team

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><h4>Developers</h4></td><td>Build and automate on top of SGM. Use the <a href="https://renewables.docs.helinplatform.com/api-reference/">POLARIS Curtailment API</a> to <a href="https://app.gitbook.com/s/x327p9qmgvN6jAxpSI6V/curtailment">curtail</a> categories of devices on a site and submit <a href="/api-reference/schedules.md">day-ahead schedules</a>.</td></tr><tr><td><h4>Operators</h4></td><td>Deploy and monitor SGM across your portfolio. ## What teams use SGM for

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><h4>Grid balancing &#x26; capacity management</h4></td><td>Stay inside your grid-connection capacity, CBC contract, and SDE feed-in caps in real time. <a href="/sgm-product-docs/concepts/closed-loop-control.md">Closed Loop Control</a> handles the per-second adjustments automatically.</td></tr><tr><td><h4>Day-ahead trading on EPEX</h4></td><td>Submit a 24-hour curtailment and dispatch <a href="/sgm-product-docs/reference-docs/scheduling-setpoints.md">schedule</a> the evening before. Gateways execute it autonomously even if your system loses connectivity overnight.</td></tr><tr><td><h4>Asset protection &#x26; fault recovery</h4></td><td>The watchdog reverts assets to safe defaults when communication drops. The <a href="/sgm-product-docs/concepts/cyclic-writer.md">cyclic writer</a> defends against device memory loss after power cycles.</td></tr><tr><td><h4>Renewable + storage + EV integration</h4></td><td>Coordinate solar, wind, batteries and EV chargers on one site under <a href="/sgm-product-docs/reference-docs/site-control.md">Site Control</a>, including BESS strategies for limited-grid sites.</td></tr><tr><td><h4>Demand response &#x26; virtual power plants</h4></td><td>Aggregate flexible assets across your portfolio. One API token, one schedule, every site responds together.</td></tr><tr><td><h4>Compliance with grid operator constraints</h4></td><td>Pre-load CBC curtailment windows or SDE limits at the start of each week, gateways execute them reliably regardless of upstream system state.</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://renewables.docs.helinplatform.com/readme.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
